Answering The Door At NightWhen it’s night (late and after midnight especially) it is always a concern when you hear a knocking at the door. It’s not usually good news.

Although, sometimes it can just be one of your teenage kids coming home and they’ve forgotten or lost their keys (that happens far too often in my experience).

When you are on your own or with young kids or your neighborhood is rough it can be very worrisome and with good reason.

It could be the police or someone you know with bad news although they are more likely to ring. Or it could be stranger or again someone who you know that you don’t want to let into the house (an ex-husband or ex-wife or partner).

Knowing what is the right thing to do is difficult. It could be something you do need to deal with and not be a threatening situation. But what if it is bad and you open the door to a whole lot of trouble.

You can ignore it or if you have a peephole you can approach the door and peep through and see who is there providing the light is good enough. Although it might not stop the knocking or ringing if they won’t leave even though there is no answer. With a peephole the person on the other can often hear you.

However, it is now possible to see who is at the door and talk to them without approaching it, without leaving your bedroom or wherever you are (even if you’re not home).

The simplest way to do this is with a smartphone, a free App and the Ring Video Doorbell.

The Ring Video Doorbell will let you know when someone is approaching your door or rings the doorbell. It does this by sending a notification to your smartphone that you answer by clicking on it. It’s like a text but sent just to its App (you download it on to your phone).

This opens up the App and you select the camera and you can then see who is at the door. It comes with night vision. The camera has a wide angle lens that allows you to see 180 degrees at one time so there is very little chance for someone to hide out of sight.

It also has a 2 way intercom that you also operate from the App so you can speak to whoever is at the door from where ever you are. It allows you to deal with the issue without approaching your door at all.
Of course, you don’t have to speak to the person at all and if you need to you can call the police based on what you see through the camera.

You can set it up so that notifications are sent to other people too. They need to download the App and you can then add them to your doorbell.

At the very least someone else is informed. But more than that they can answer the door remotely if you prefer from anywhere they can connect to the internet on your behalf – if you’re female alone you might want to have a man (husband, boyfriend) answer to give the impression you’re not alone.

Installation and set up of the doorbell is straightforward in most instances . It is designed to replace your current doorbell. It can be installed in 30 minutes and doesn’t need any major technical or home improvement skills.

It can do more than this with helping to protect your home during the day too. You can read more about how it works here.

Now there is no need to have to open that door in the early hours of the morning and not know who is there. It can all be sorted without leaving your bedroom . Your mind can be put at rest if its’ not an issue or you can deal with a problem without putting yourself and your family at even more at risk.
